Overland Park, Kansas resident, 72
James N. LeBaron, 72, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at home after a long bout with cancer.
Jim was born Sept. 4, 1936 to Merle and Selma LeBaron in Twin Falls, Idaho. Jim lived most of his life in Nebraska. He grew up in Hampton, where he graduated from High School in 1954. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1958.
He and his wife, Ruth, married in 1958 and lived in Lincoln for 30 years. After living in Dallas, Texas for seven years, they moved to Overland Park, Kan., in 1993. He worked in the sales field in the homebuilding products and plastics industries.
Jim earned Sharpshooter (rifle) status in the Army and enjoyed guns and target shooting with his grandson.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Selma LeBaron, and Aunt Gertrude and Uncle Karl Kath with whom he lived while growing up.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Ruth; son, Jay LeBaron of Honolulu, Hawaii; daughter, Jill Suzanne LeBaron, of Overland Park, Kan.; grandson, Jimmie Gillenwater, of Overland Park, Kan.; and many extended family members and friends who will miss his sparkling-outgoing personality, funny stories and kind heart.
The family is requesting that memorials be sent to Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64114 or Holy Cross Lutheran Church Legacy Campaign, 7851 W. 119th Street, Overland Park, KS 66213.
Visitation was held Friday, June 19 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, with a brief prayer service at 6:30 pm. A funeral service will be held in the church where Jim and Ruth were married at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 20 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1511 North Y Road, Hampton, NE 68843. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the church as well. Burial will be at the Hampton Cemetery.
