But with both teams facing long weekends, and pitching depth being a concern, the two Junior teams decided to make Tuesday nights get together a single affair.

The York team pounded out nine hits and scored six runs in the second to come away with the 14-6 win in five innings.

The Blues nine hits may have been the biggest hitting night of the year for the Juniors according to head coach Nick When. “I thought we had a good night with the sticks and we hit the ball hard,” said Wiehn. “ Other than a few base running errors, which I was disappointed in,  I thought we played pretty well tonight. We also need to cut down on the errors.”

Lincoln Southwest took an early 2-0 lead when a walk, and SAC and error allowed runners to get to second and third following the first two hitters.

A run scoring ground out and an RBI single by Tanner Nolan accounted for the inning scoring.

York was able to trim that lead in half without a hit as Logan Killion was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and cored on an RBI ground out by Nate Brackhan.

In the second after York starter Connor Zumpfe only faced three batters, the Blues erupted for six runs on just three hits to take a 7-2 lead. In the frame the only hits were by Justin Schumacher, Killion with a two run double, and Taylor with a two run single.

The Blues chased the Southwest starter half way through the inning.

The Blues added four more runs in the third after the LSW Pepsi team picked up a single counter to make it 7-3.

In the third, Schumacher doubled, Chauncey Miller had an RBI single, Brackhan singled, Drake Suddarth also joined the hit parade with a safety and Taylor cranked a two run double.

Down 11-3, LSW put up three runs in the top of the fourth, the big blow being a two run double by Josh Fisherwood.

In the bottom of the fifth, Killion reached on an error, Zach Chohon walked and both runners scored on an a big error.

With two outs and Taylor on third after walking and advancing their on a wild pitch, Trezden Ford ripped a single between third and shortstop to end the game via the eight run rule.

In picking up the win, Zumpfe allowed six hits, struckout three and walked three.

In the win Taylor was 2-3 with four RBI, Schumacher was 2-3, Killion was 1-2 with two runs batted in, Miller was 1-1 with two RBI, Suddarth was 1-2, Ford 1-1, and Brackhan was 1-3.

York is in action this weekend with four games Friday through Sunday at the Central City Tournament. The Junior Blue (7-6) open action Friday night with a 8 p.m. game against Central City. On Saturday they take G.I. Five Points at 5 p.m. and on Sunday are in action at 2:30 and 5 p.m. with contests against Albion and Utica-Beaver Crossing.

With Ryan Salsman on the bench with an injury, the Blues pitching staff is very thin for the weekend.

“We may have to throw some kids in there this weekend and see how they do, because we are going to be pretty thin, especially in the middle games,” said Wiehn. “Zach Taylor will pitch, and Connor (Zumpfe) will be our starter on Sunday, after that we will just have to see how things go.”
