Knights taken to the limit by Dodgers

Published: Wednesday, July 1, 2009 12:12 AM CDT
MCCOOL JUNCTION – Only one other time this season were the York Knights in the position they faced Sunday afternoon at McCool Junction ball field.

The York County Knights scored five times in the eighth frame that day to pick up the 7-2 win over the Aurora Mudcats.

On Sunday the Knights trailed the Sandhills Dodgers 4-3 as they came to bat in the bottom of the seventh.

Two pinch hitters and a three-run home run by Billy Grenfell, gave the Knights a 6-4 win and kept them at 11-0 on the year.

Game two was another pitching battle as Mike Becker out dueled the Sandhills starter by the final score of 1-0. Becker was on top of his game as he hurled seven complete, struckout 16 and only allowed one hit.

The only run scored on a Adam Vavra single in the bottom of the sixth frame. The only other hit recorded by the Knights was off the bat of Jake Staehr.

In the first game the Dodgers outhit the Knights 7-5 as the only hits came off the bats of Becker, Harlow and two from Justin Schultz. Both teams committed two errors in the field.

The win improved the Knights National League Division leading record to 12-0 and the team remains on a collision course on July 12 when they take on the American League Division Leading Kearney Kernels at Elks Filed in Kearney.
