Vietnam Traveling Wall in Geneva


News-Times/Eric J Eckert City crews have completed the extension of Forest Heights Drive to 4-H Drive. The project included the purchase of a small parcel of land from the county, the removal of trees and paving. Motorists are now able to proceed through that area, which used to be a dead end.

GENEVA — The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be visiting Geneva next week, July 8 - 14.

Preparatations for the Wall’s arrival start at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8. The Wall is scheduled to be escorted to its final destination at the East Bullpen at 5:30 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to help with the raising of the Wall, starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 9. Ceremonies commence at 9:30 a.m. and the Wall will remain open through its disassembly on Tuesday, July 14 at 8 a.m. Volunteers are also needed for the disassembly.

Prayers will be read daily at 7:30 a.m. Names of Nebraskans killed in Vietnam will be read daily at this time.

Different area organizations and speakers will participate in ceremonies and activities each day. Meals will also be available at VFW Post 7102 most days.
