YORK — After notching their first win of the season, the York Cornerstone Junior Gold came up just short in the second game of a doubleheader with Malcolm, Wednesday night in York.
The game went five innings and was stopped at the time limit giving Malcolm the 12-11 win.
“I was glad we didn’t quit and almost pulled off the comeback,” York head coach LeRoy Ott said.
After two complete innings, the Gold trailed 4-1. The Gold scored three runs in the top of the third to tie the game. But in the bottom of the inning, Malcolm added three runs of their own to take a 7-4 lead.
The Gold tied the score once again in the top of the fourth inning with three more runs. Yet once again Malcolm answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead, 8-7.
The Gold would take their first lead of the game in the fifth inning. York scored four runs, their biggest output of the game, and held an 11-8 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
Malcolm was able to score the four runs needed to pick up the victory in the fifth as the game was called due to time.
Chad Hulse and Logan Meisinger led the Gold at the plate, both going 4-4. Jarrett Suddarth added two singles, while six other York players had a hit each.
“Nine out of 12 players had a hit, that’s great,” said Ott. “We could have made it two wins in a row if we hadn’t walked nine Malcolm hitters.”
The Gold will host Lakeview, today at 3 p.m., at Levitt Stadium.
