If anyone had said that there was nothing to do last weekend in York, they would have been very, very wrong. It was a very busy weekend with such a variety of events for young and old, male and female and local and out-of-towners.
“Faith County II . . . An Evening of Culture” wrapped up its final week of production to sold-out houses for all shows except two. Laughter has always been considered the best medicine, and given the current state of things in our world at the moment, laughter was what we tried to deliver. Judging by the comments and attendance, I think this talented cast succeeded. Comedies are what our audiences seem to crave, and comedies are one thing that the Yorkshire Playhouse does so well. Thanks to all of our patrons who filled our seats and allowed us to entertain them. We promise to give you more of these shows.
The Annual Antique Tractor, Engine and Car Show at Wessels Living History Farm Saturday and Sunday brought in impressive audiences both days from in-state Nebraska and out-of-state. We helped with admissions Saturday morning and people just kept coming through the gate. Director Dale Clark was extremely pleased with his exhibitors, the attendance and weather. We are very blessed to have such a gem of a place right here in York.
The 4th Annual October Czechfest was Sunday at the York City Auditorium. Most of you know by now how much I like that wonderful Czech food being served, and, as always, it was a treat. I have never seen as many people attending this event as there were this year. In fact, when I left at 1 pm to prepare for the last production of “Faith County II”, there were exactly 16 dinners left to be served! I hope everyone that wanted food got there in time because you missed something special if you didn’t. The Dumpling Rolling Contest was a hoot, especially since one of the contestants was Joan Kirshenbaum from Omaha (Todd Kirshenbaum’s real-life mother, and the subject of numerous of his York News-Times columns.). She managed to win the speed title in the contest, but I’m still convinced that her dumplings were more in the “lumplings” category. Congratulations to all of the Nebraska Czechs of York for their hard working in putting on such a successful and fun event. “Na shledanou . . . Til we meet again.”

The rest of October is also filled with many great events, including:
