Get back to work!
The United States Congress, in a time of great turmoil and distress, did on Tuesday what the American people have come to expect from the most notorious “do nothing” Congress in the history of this nation. They went on a five-week vacation.
How could they? It's not like they earned it. Somehow they honestly believe it is more important to go back home and campaign for another term than it is to stay on the job and actually do something meaningful.
What kind of people have we elected? How could there possibly be room enough on the ballot for their name and their egos? A recent Rasmussen Poll indicated only a 9 percent approval rating. Well folks, that's about to go down to zero.
So here is what's going to happen next, unless they heed the demands of their employers, we the people, and return to work. They are going to come home and plead with us to elect them for another term, saying they are all about bi-partisan politics. How they are going to work across political lines and build coalitions of support to solve our energy mess, our immigration fiasco and our healthcare nightmare.
Here's what we are going to do. We are going to say, “I don't believe you anymore. But I could be convinced if you would immediately return to work, and actually do something.”
If they refuse to cut their unearned vacation short, under no circumstance will they get my vote. I have had enough of their words. I want actions. I want them to do something they seldom do, listen to us. Don't waste their money campaigning for votes they will not receive unless they go back to work.
Not only should they work on the energy crisis, they need to fund the government. For the first time in decades the Congress hasn't even appropriated the money to keep the government running. Will that stop them from cashing their paid vacation checks? What do you think?
Will that stop them from spending $1.5 billion dollars a day more than they take in? Will that stop them from running up our $450 billion dollar deficit? Will that stop them from slowing down our $9.5 trillion dollar debt? What do you think?
If the U.S. Congress, walking out on their responsibilities right now, doesn't hack you off enough to let them know how you feel, then you are not engaged, not living up to the spirit this nation was built on. The idea that the people would rule through their elected representatives.
Maybe you think we are better off with them out on recess. I am beginning to think the same thing. That way they can do nothing. That is what they are best at anyway. But we are a generous and forgiving people. Let's give them one more try before November comes up and they ask us to pay them $160,000 a year for another term.
Let's see if they have enough integrity to go back to work, now. I think it would be an excellent idea if we reminded them
