Local voters like Johanns, Smith, Kleeb and Stoddard

York, NE —

York County voters were in line with their counterparts across the state, as the majority favored the same candidates when it came to U.S. Senate and Congressional races.
York County Republicans highly favored Mike Johanns in the U.S. Senate race for the seat currently held by Chuck Hagel. A total of 1,407 local voters gave the nod to Johanns, compared to 394 for his competitor, Pat Flynn. There were also seven write-in votes in York County, regarding this race.
On the Democratic side of the Senatorial contest, 378 local voters preferred Scott Kleeb, compared to Tony Raimondo (131), Larry Marvin, 5; and James Wilson, 4.
For the Congressional seat in District 3, York County Republicans approved of Incumbent Adrian Smith, who received 1,531 votes, compared to 206 for Jeremiah Ellison. On the Democratic side, 274 said they preferred Jay Stoddard, compared to 120 who voted for Paul Spatz.
When it came to Amendment One, 1,245 York County voters said they were in favor — with 948 voting against it.
York County Republicans favored Presidential candidate John McCain over Ron Paul — McCain received 1,490 votes from his local party members, with 226 going to the other. There were 25 local write-ins.
On the Democratic side, 259 York County voters said they want to see Hillary Clinton become their party’s candidate, with 198 saying they prefer Barack Obama. Twenty-two local Dems voted for Mike Gravel, with two people providing write-ins. No one in York County voted for candidates from the Green or Nebraska parties.
