York, NE —

Name: Doug Deprez
Address: 1420 Road 21 Benedict, NE 68316
Occupation: York County Weed Superintendent
Spouse: Cheryl
Children: Clayton and Beth Deprez, Michelle (Deprez) and Tony Kreifels

Q: Why did you decide to run for this particular office?
A: I’ve worked as the York County Weed Superintendent for 4 years now. I’ve enjoyed this position as a county official and want to take it to the next level.

Q: Have you ever held another public office, and if so, what was it?
A: Yes, presently I am the York County Weed Superintendent.

Q: What in your background will benefit you in this capacity?
A: I grew up in and have lived in York County all my life. I know most of the farmers and their families in my area. I enjoy visiting with people and like problem solving.

Q: Work experience?
A: I have an agricultural business background. I farmed in York County for 25 years. I also had a pork farrow-to-finish operation. I feel this experience is an advantage for me when talking with people in my area. And presently in my county position, I am out in the county every day checking for noxious weeds. I see first hand the condition of the roads and I visit with a lot of people.

Q: Political experience?
A: None, I am ready for a new challenge.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish if elected?
A: I hope to better represent the opinions, views and concerns of the people in my district #2 area.

Q: What do you think are the primary issues facing this office?
A: As I listen to the concerns of the people in my area, the condition of the roads and their maintenance is high on the list. And of course we need to ensure that our veterans, who have sacrificed so much for us, continue to receive all benefits available to them.

Please rank the following issues by importance, with 1 being the most important — as it pertains to how you see priorities for the county:
• Keeping a tight budget
• Economic development
• Maintenance and new construction of roads
• Veterans affairs
• Cooperation with city of York and other municipalities
• Other
A: All of these issues are important and to rank them is difficult.
Although, I feel that the veterans affairs, maintenance and new construction of roads are especially important and share the top ranking.
And by becoming more efficient, we can keep a handle on the budget.
York County needs more economic development, and we need to work together with the York city officials.
