York, NE —

Non-incumbent Kurt Bulgrin received the Republican nod for county commissioner during Tuesday’s Primary Election, in District 2.
He will now go against Doug Deprez, the lone Democrat, in the General Election set for November.
The Republican race was hot with five people running for the partisan bid — Incumbent Ken Stuhr, Erick Brekke, Mervin Ocken, Dean Blum and Bulgrin.
Incumbent Stuhr has been on the county board for 20 years.
Bulgrin said in earlier interviews that he decided to run for county commissioner “to bring a new voice and perspective to county government, and was encouraged to do so by friends and neighbors in the community. I am very interested in county government, and it would be an honor to give my time and service to the people of the second district. There are many facets of county government, including but not limited to roads, veteran services, abandoned cemeteries, and general assistance, all of which impacts the county budget. I would examine how county tax dollars are used, and whether they are being spent wisely and efficiently. I am the sixth generation of my family to live in York County, and I want to ensure that future generations will want to call York County their home.”
Bulgrin currently works as a legislative aide at the Nebraska Legislature. Through that experience, “I have had many opportunities to monitor and work on legislation that impacts counties. This experience has given me insight into how government agencies operate.”
He says that he wants to maintain “fiscal accountability for the taxpayers of York County while promoting economic growth.”
