Barbara Jean Peterson, 90, of Lenexa, Kan., formerly of Leavenworth, Kan., died Oct. 7, 2012 at Sunrise Senior Living of Lenexa.

She was born April 19, 1922 in York to Leo V. and Nadeen M. Bennett Beckord.

She graduated from East High School in Sioux City, Iowa. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who journeyed with her husband around the country while he worked in the corporate offices of Montgomery Ward and Co. for 31 years.

Over the years they resided in Aberdeen, S.D., Vermillion, S.D., Lincoln, Denver, Colo., Chicago, Ill., Overland Park, Kan., Lenexa, Kan., Dallas, Texas and finally back to Chicago, Ill. She also held positions at Lincoln AT&T and The Jones Store in Overland Park, Kan. They retired to York to care for her mother and then moved to Leavenworth, Kan., in 1997.

She married William H. Peterson in Sioux City, Iowa, on April 8, 1944. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2004 following the celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Robert and Ray.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ruth Beckord of Woodinville, Wash.; sons, William H. Peterson, Jr. and wife Carol of Placida, Fla., Richard D. Peterson and wife Sharon of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughter, Jean M. Romig and husband Ronald of Leavenworth, Kan.; five grandchildren, Matthew Peterson, Lynn Peterson and her husband Eric March, Anne Peterson, Rebecca Peters and her husband Joshua Peters and Laura Romig; and great-grandchildren, Lillian Peters and Silas March.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth, Kan. 66048.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012 at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in the Mount Muncie Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 422 Chestnut Leavenworth, Kan.
