Death, Donald Alan Baker, Stromsburg resident, 86

Donald Alan Baker, age 86, of Stromsburg, passed away, October 4, 2012 in Stromsburg.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Stromsburg Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Carlson and Pastor Roger Burke officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Stromsburg Baptist Church. 

Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery with Military Rites by the Stromsburg Legion Post #132. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg have been entrusted with arrangements.

Don was born July 2, 1926 to Morace Erwin and Myra Augusta (Glasser) Baker in Stromsburg. He attended Blue Valley country school southwest of Stromsburg and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1944. Following high school Don enlisted in the Army and served until November 1945.

On March 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to Clarice Allene Austin at the Stromsburg Methodist Church. To this union five children were born. The family resided on their farm south of Stromsburg for 61 years where Don was engaged in farming.

He also pursued his passion for raising cattle, especially Herefords, along with owning horses and buggies.

Don enjoyed spending time having egg coffee with family and friends, his wife's cooking, his children and grandchildren and was passionate about his Christianity and family traditions. He enjoyed a good conversation about Republican party politics.

He was a member of the Stromsburg Baptist Church and the Stromsburg Legion Post #132.

Survivors include his wife Clarice of Stromsburg; daughters, Cindy (John) Schofield of Doha, Qator, Sarah (Dan) Carlson of Arden Hills, Minn., Melissa (Dan) McKenney of Fort Fairfield, Maine, Owen (Kari) Baker of Stromsburg and Rachel (Ryan) Twogood of Stromsburg; 14 grandchildren Hannah, Peter, Rebekah and Rachel Carlson, Melissa and Lance McKenney, Coleman, Katie, Madison and Tatum Baker, Whitney, Sam, Jake and Will Twogood; two-step grandchildren Brian and Dana Schofield; one brother Merwin Twarling of Lodgepole; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Morace and Myra Baker; infant son Jimmy Baker; sisters, Arlene Cornell, Orpha Dee Mitchell and Patty Speltz and one brother Robert Baker.
