Death, Dorothy Ann Cain-Toombs, Stromsburg resident, 80

Dorothy Ann Cain-Toombs, 80, was born in Groton S.D., to C.A and Iva (Foster) Stephen and passed away on Friday Sept. 28 at Stromsburg after a courageous battle with cancer.  

Dorothy spent most of her younger years in York. There, she married Robert Zieg and to this first union her first son, Jim was born.

She and Jim then moved to Lincoln, where she pursued a career in cosmetology at Ben Simons.

In July of 1962, she married Delmar Cain and to this second union, a son Tony and daughter Polly were born. They later moved to Gresham where she opened a beauty salon and later the D&D bar.

She was widowed and then later married Alfred Toombs. In her remaining years there in Gresham, she met and made many great friends.

Preceding Dorothy, were her parents, C.A and Iva Stephen; husbands, Robert Zieg, Delmar Cain and Alfred Toombs; brothers, Bill Stephen and John Stephen of Brighton Colo. and Alan Stephen of Junction City, Kan.; sisters, Lois Ritchie of Fairmont, Margaret Graff of Wahoo and  Joan Rhoades of Crete.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Jim (Monica) Zieg of Chicago Ill., Tony Cain of Gresham and Polly (John) Coon of Gresham; step-children, Alan (Janis) Toombs of Plattmouth, Fred (Diane) Toombs of Lincoln, Kathy (Bobby) Harrop of Panama, Rene Lint of Pa. and Phyllis (Donny) Reinwald of Bennet; grandchildren, Elizabeth Lyons, Alexandria Coon and Jessie Coon; a host of nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and countless friends.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 at the Presbyterian Church in Gresham. Inurnment will be in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Gresham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

Condolences can be sent to the family at  Metz Mortuary, York, Neb. is handling arrangements.
