Death, LaVaughn Bernice Fenster, York resident, 83

LaVaughn Bernice Fenster, age 83, of York, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at Lincoln. 

She was born Aug. 13, 1929 in Alma, Kan. to William and Hermine (Koepke) Roth. A Concordia High School and Teacher’s College graduate, she taught elementary school in Washington, Iowa, California and Missouri.

LaVaughn and Dwayne L. Fenster were united in marriage on April 25, 1953 at Davenport, Iowa. Following their move to York in 1971, LaVaughn was employed at Higgins Studio.

She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She could often be found working in her yard or at the YGH Wellness Center which was as much a social event for her as it was a health benefit.

LaVaughn is survived by her daughter, Kae (Randy) Snider of Houston, Texas; four sons, Derek (Chris) Fenster of York, Keith (Candice) Fenster of Lincoln, Kevin (Lanel) Fenster of Waverly and Greg (Holly) Fenster of Staplehurst; grandchildren, Brandon Fenster, Tamara Fenster, Danielle (Richard) Tate, Joshua Fenster, Jeremy Jones, Josh Blow and Jessica Blow; great-grandchildren, Shyanne, Alex and Isabelle Fenster, Remington Tate, and Aylecia Lawrence.  

Also surviving are her sister, Clara Harley of Chambers; brothers, Delbert (Viola) Roth of Hickory, N.C. and Kenny Roth of Longmont, Colo. LaVaughn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dwayne; sisters, Eleanore Roth and Virginia Hoerle and brothers, William, Milton and Gene Roth.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Mike Neidow officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, south of Waco. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday and all day Monday at Metz Mortuary.

The family will be present to greet friends Monday evening from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Emmanuel Lutheran School or the Lutheran Hour.

Condolences can be sent to the family at  Metz Mortuary, York, Neb. is handling arrangements.
