In partnership with Southeast Community College and 19 local school districts, Educational Service Unit 6 (ESU 6) is pleased to announce the creation of the Southeast Nebraska Career Academies Partnership (SENCAP). Junior and senior students from local high schools have the opportunity to enroll one of two Career Academies - Education and Medical/Health.
SENCAP is a unique program that is the first of its kind in the state of Nebraska. Students in the academies will receive valuable insight into their field of choice. The classes are developed to allow students the opportunity to learn through interaction with business professionals, professors, and other high school students. Students will also be able to receive valuable experience through job-shadowing opportunities. Students who participate in the academies will receive both high school and college credit for the classes they successfully complete. A maximum of 18 quarter hours or 12 college semester hours can be earned through the program. All tuition expenses for the program will be paid for through an agreement between local school districts and Southeast Community College.
Currently 125 students have already enrolled in the Career Academies. The students are from Ashland-Greenwood High School, Centennial High School, Crete High School, Dorchester High School, Fillmore Central High School, Heartland High School, Malcolm High School, McCool Junction High School, Milford High School, Norris High School, Raymond Central High School, Seward High School, Shickley High School, Wahoo High School, Waverly High School, Wilber-Clatonia High School, and York High School. Classes will be held at regional sites in York, Crete, and Lincoln.
At this time, SENCAP is offering classes in Education and Medical/Health fields. However, the program will expand to offer similar academies in Business Management and Industrial Technology in the near future. Interested students can enroll in the program by contacting their local school counselor or Regional SENCAP Coordinator.
