York Elementary School is proud of one of their own. During a Friday morning assembly, York Super Wal-Mart manager Mike Weskamp announced first grade teacher Mrs. Merrilee Roemmich had been named Teacher of the Year.
Weskamp told students, faculty and staff of YES , “We had a ballot box in the store. People could vote on who should be teacher of the year and why. Some of the comments about Mrs. Roemmich were: ‘She is patient and kind to all students.’ ‘She makes sure no student is left behind.’ and ‘She makes learning fun.”
Roemmich began her teaching career in York at Lincoln School over 30 years ago.
Principal Kris Friesen led students in a cheer for Roemmich. “We’re proud, we’re proud, we’re so proud,” kids cheered loudly before heading off to class.
