York, NE —

York Middle School’s eighth grade class was the star of festivities Friday, the last day of classes for this term.
As they look next to being high school students their principal, Brian Tonniges, told the students — the first eighth grade class to depart the new middle school learning center — that, as they continue one, not to be afraid of setting goals for themselves.
“There are a lot of people around to support those goals,” he said. Tonniges also touched on citizenship, saying, “When the time’s right, do the right thing.”
The class members, he said, “Have a lot of challenges in front of you, but a lot of those challenges are going to be fun. You’re a very talented group. You are four years away — four school years — from everyone telling you what to do to everone asking, ‘What are you going to do,’” he said.
“Focus on a goal. Take challenges head on. Take a positive attitude.” Do those things and, “I have no doubt you will be successful in whatever you do.”
