Exeter, Ne —

Exeter residents made the decision Tuesday to allow an additional 1 1/2 percent sales tax and the issuance of municipal bonds to build a new swimming pool that is estimated to cost $1.3 million (but not to exceed that amount).
According to the Fillmore County Clerk’s office, 145 people voted in favor of the bond issuance, compared to 51 against. When it came to the sales tax, 143 people voted in favor and 55 voted against.
Now that the sales tax has passed, it could likely be in place as soon as the paperwork is filed, around July.
Regarding the construction of a new swimming pool — the estimate of income from a municipal sales tax would be $62,548.96 and the bond payment would be approximately $100,000 per year for 20 years. Donations and additional property tax dollars will have to make up the difference.
Additional sales tax on vehicles cannot be used for the swimming pool. Funds from car sales tax are supposed to go toward roads maintenance funds.
