Motorists, residents and business owners/managers are reminded that the Lincoln Avenue underpass will close at approximately 7 a.m., Monday morning, July 7, and remain as such for an estimated two months or more.

Jerry Grooms, project manager for the Nebraska Department of Roads, says motorists will still have a variety of detours, in order to get from the south side of town to the north, across/under the railroad tracks — including Division Avenue and Nebraska Avenue.
Major work will be done to the storm sewer in the underpass (which will involve the majority of the timeframe), in order to alleviate flooding problems. There will also be facade improvements and the driving surface will be redone.
Milling continues in the downtown area, now moving south along Lincoln Avenue. On Monday, the milling will be done inside the underpass — so there will be no milling taking place anywhere else in the city at that time. Assuming all goes as planned, the milling of streets will resume on Tuesday — this time on the north side of the underpass, moving toward Highway 34. Grooms says he expects the milling work on the north side of town to be done next week.
“That’s assuming that the weather holds, the equipment doesn’t break down, etc.,” Grooms said. “If all goes as planned, that’s what we’re looking at.”
Patching work will begin soon in the downtown area, in preparation for the actual paving.
