Traveling with your pet

Summer is upon us and even with high gas prices many are or will be traveling.  If you have a pet, you may have wondered what to do with Fido or Fluffy while away.  Many of you may find a friend or family member to check in on their pet while others will board your animal at an “animal motel.”   Others of you wouldn’t leave your “loved one” behind for any reason.  If you do decide to travel with your pet, here are a few considerations to remember.

Cropping Update
We've sure continued to have variable weather and it's often feast of famine.  On Wednesda rain, York County received from 0 to 5+ inches of rain.  Two inches nice and easy would hav been a lot nicer.


FSA begins sign-up for 2008

YORK — Sign-up for the 2008 Direct and Counter Cyclical Program (DCP) began June 25 and will continue through Sept. 30, according to Leann Nelson, county executive director of the York County Farm Service Agency (FSA), in York.


CRP acres available for hay and forage

YORK — The USDA has announced that Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres enrolled in specific practices are available for hay and forage after the end of the primary nesting season. This authorization was granted due to the increased demand for commodities and resulting higher prices that have impacted the livestock industry.


Copper thieves continue to strike

Thieves continue to steal copper wire from pivots in this county and those surrounding.
York County Sheriff Dale Radcliff says yet another theft has been reported, south of the Waco interchange, in which more copper wire was taken. The value, he said, hasn’t yet been determined.

Crop reporting date is extended

Because of the delay in announcing the provisions of the 2008 Farm Bill and extreme weather conditions, the final date to report all 2008 crops has been extended to Aug. 15. Late fees will not be applied if acreage reports are filed by the new reporting date. Producers wishing to report prevented planted acres and/or failed acreages must do so by the Aug. 15 deadline.
