The public is invited to join Mayor Chuck Harris, Senator Greg Adams and housing partners for a grand opening ceremony of the Yorktowne Estates, which are 18 senior rental townhomes. The event will be Thursday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m., in the Yorktowne Clubhouse on 816 Wisconsin Ave.
The development was created through a public/private partnership of the city of York, the York County Development Corporation, Midwest Housing Initiatives, Excel Development Group, Midwest Housing Equity Group, the Nebraska Investment Finance Authority, Nebraska Department of Economic Development, FHLBank of Topeka and Horizon Bank. The total project cost for the development was approximately $2.8 million.
The Yorktowne Estates project consists of nine duplexes. Sixteen units are two-bedroom and two units are three-bedroom. All units are one level with their own attached single-stall garage, washer and dryer, walk-in shower, range, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. All units are visitable and adaptable for the frail elderly and persons with disabilities. Given the possibility that some senior residents may have children, grandchildren or an in-home caregiver, the three-bedroom units are an asset. The development also includes a clubhouse for the residents’ use.
“York is a progressive and innovative city and we welcome quality housing developments that fit the needs of our residents,” said Mayor Harris. “Yorktowne Estates provides additional affordable housing choices for seniors within the community.”
The Yorktowne Estates are for income qualified seniors 55 and older, who are either living in substandard housing, looking for more of a home-like atmosphere or struggling to maintain their home.
Construction was completed in March and was 100 percent occupied by April.
“The Yorktowne Estates duplexes are an asset for the aging Baby Boomers and seniors who reside in York and the surrounding area. The duplexes offer independence without the burden of maintenance or lawn care,” said Senator Adams.
Seniors who wish to be on the rental waiting list are encouraged to complete a pre-application (those documents and brochures will be available at the grand opening). Or, for more information, contact Deb Holcomb at 1-800-378-9366.
