A hearing was supposed to be held this week in York County District Court, regarding the future longterm treatment for Gilbert Hendricks, formerly of McCool Junction. That, however, was postponed, due to motions filed by Hendricks’ attorney.
Hendricks was arrested on charges that he attempted to kill family members — but he was not convicted of the crimes by reason of insanity. He was committed to the Lincoln Regional Center by Judge Alan Gless — but was forced to wait months for treatment in the York County Jail due to the fact there was no available room for him at the Lincoln facility.
Eventually, authorities were able to transport Hendricks to the facility, where he has been under evaluation by doctors. Now that the evaluation period is completed, it’s time for Judge Alan Gless to make a final order regarding Hendricks’ future.
Apparently, a proposed treatment plan has been formulated, based on doctor’s reviews of Hendricks’ condition. Specifics of that plan were not released. However, Hendricks’ attorney, York County Public Defender Eric Williams, has filed an objection to the plan, saying “it fails to address the prognosis for change in his condition in light of available treatment, it fails to include a projected timetable for attainment of intermediate and longterm treatment goals, and it fails to include any foundation for the statement he is medication non-compliant while in the community.”
A hearing is expected in the near future.
