Wyatt Suddarth of York was among a group of 40 high school sophomores attending the 10th annual Academy of Excellence program June 22-27 at The Peter Kiewit Institute. This week-long program provides hands-on lessons in information science, technology and engineering.
Students were selected from among nominees submitted by high schools in Nebraska and southwest Iowa and were accompanied by their favorite math, science of computer teachers. Students and teachers came from Burwell, Chadron, Tryon, Omaha, Ponca, David City, Stapleton, Firth, Weeping Water, Falls City, Wymore, Norfolk, Callaway, Wakefield, Holdrege, Stuart, Roseland, Winside, Gordon, Columbus, Ralston, Oakland, Harvard, Lincoln, Coleridge, Elkhorn, Wahoo, Syracuse, York, Creighton, Hastings, Greeley and Neligh.
Students and their teachers were able to take part in workshops covering technology, robotics, engineering and electronics and made behind-the-scenes visits to GISC, Lozier IMAX Theatre, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo, Durham Museum and Strategic Air and Space Museum.
Wyatt is the son of Zach and Lori Suddarth of York.
