Max M. Gray, age 78, of York, NE, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at York.  He was born on January 16, 1930 at Polk, NE to Harry and Eleanora (Stettner) Gray.  Max served in the US Air Force from 1951-1952 and was united in marriage on June 8, 1957 to Willa Mae Pinneo in York.  He was a lifelong farmer in the York and Bradshaw area and following his retirement in 1996, he and Willa moved to York.  Even though he was retired, Max continued to help out on the family farm. He enjoyed all things related to farming, especially John Deere machinery, and collecting farm toys.
Max is survived by his wife Willa Mae of York; sons, Mark (Jan) Gray of York and Brian (Karen) Gray also of York; step-granddaughter Michelle (Jerry) Cool of York; step-great granddaughters Kennedy and Kerrigan Cool of York.  Also surviving is his sister Bonnie (Lloyd) Redding of York; sisters-in-law, Patsy Rempel of Seward, NE, Nona Pinneo of Lake Forrest, CA, Barb (Francis) Matlock of York, Linda Duell of York; brothers-in-law, Pete Wren of Seward, Phillip Hansen of York and Joe Pinneo of York.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers, several brothers and sisters-in law including Arlin Pinneo who was killed in the line of duty in Korea.
Max has been cremated and graveside services will be held on Monday at 10:30 am at the Arborville Cemetery near Polk with the Rev. Art Phillips officiating.  Those who wish to go to the graveside may meet at Metz Mortuary and the procession will leave for Polk at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in York.
