Rex D. “Duke” Miller age 84 of York died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at York.
He was born December 25, 1923 in York to Lincoln Lee and Jessye (Hastings) Miller and grew up in York graduating from York High School in 1941.
Rex was a US Marine Corps Sergeant serving in World War II with six others from the Nebraska area. They were collectively known as the “Lucky 7.” After serving in the US Corps of Engineers Rex became a Postal Carrier in York where he retired after 33 years of service. He was a member of the York Elk’s Club, the Eagle’s Club and the York American Legion Club as well.
Rex and Effie L. Madison were united in marriage in Fairbury in May on 1953. They made their home in York where they attended the First United Methodist Church. Rex enjoyed all Nebraska sports including Nebraska football, hunting and fishing. He was very proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s achievements.
Left to cherish his memory are three daughters; Mary and her husband Bob Fessler of Sutton, Julie Miller of Carson City, NV, Vicki and her husband Dale Stilwell of York. A Stepdaughter Barbara Mason also of York. His grandchildren include; Tim Mason of Lincoln, Todd and his wife Betty Mason also of Lincoln, Jessica and her husband Josh Erickson of Phillips, Darin Fessler of Lincoln, Tracy Fessler of Sutton, and Jacob Stilwell of York. Great grandchildren include, Jacob and Emily Mason of Lincoln.
Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant sister, his wife Effie and her son Richard Beck.
Military graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Arborville Cemetery at Arborville with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Visitation begins after 1 p.m. on Sunday. His family will greet friends from 7 – 8:30 p.m., Monday evening at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
