Lillian P. Sloan, beloved mother and grandmother went home to Heaven, October 4, 2008.
She was born July 22, 1918 to Ernest and Ella “Synder” Tonniges of Gresham. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church northeast of Gresham. She attended the parochial school at St. Paul's and later attending Gresham High School.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Glen H. Sloan, July 23, 1936. They were married 44 years until Glen's death in 1980. She continued to live in the family home until 2006 when her health started to decline. Lillian and Glen farmed in the York, Benedict, and Stromsburg areas until they moved to Ft. Collins in 1963. She worked in many restaurants in Nebraska and Colorado, managing the Republic Drug Café in Ft. Collins where customers would stand in line for her homemade donuts and coffee. She retired in 1968 becoming a full-time homemaker.
Lillian is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Bonnie Nelson, Lincoln, and Julie and Al Warnock of Ft. Collins, six grandchildren, Diane (Dale) James of Humboldt, Dennis (Gaye) Nelson, Dale Nelson all of Lincoln, Jared Warnock, Jevon Warnock and Janessa Warnock all of Ft. Collins, also Aaron (Rachelle) Luttes of Johnstown, Colorado, seven great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and three step great-great-grandchildren, two sister-in-laws, many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was also a six generation aunt.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen, her parents, infant daughter, Janet Marie, son-in-law, Stuart Nelson, four infant grandchildren, all her siblings (four brothers and two sisters); and all forty-eight cousins.
Lillian was a former member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of York and a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Ft. Collins. She passed on her strong faith and good sense of humor to her family and will be greatly missed.
Those who desire may view Lillian, Tuesday, October 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a prayer service for family and friends at 7 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Ft. Collins. A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, October 8 at 2 p.m. at the Ft. Collins Good Samaritan Retirement Village Chapel, 508 W. Trilby Rd. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Pastor Leroy Grimm will officiate at the services.
