Karel Linhart Sysel, a resident of Wynne, Ark., and former resident of York, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008 at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark., at the age of 85.
He was born Sept. 29, 1923 in Pleasant Dale, the son of Charles and Anna Culek Sysel.
He married Irene Lawson on Aug. 15, 1946.
Karel was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Amalgamated Meat Cutters & Butcher Workmen of North America. He worked as a Foreman for the York Packing Company for 28 years before retiring to Arkansas. He parachuted for the first time on his 65th birthday and many times thereafter. After receiving his pilot’s license he became a pilot for the Jump Club in Crete. He enjoyed computers, motorcycles, hunting, fishing, reading and his family.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank Sysel; sisters, Frances Naveratil and Mary Sysel.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Sysel of the home; two sons, Karl S. (Nancy) Sysel of Lincoln and Stewart (Sharon) Sysel of Omaha; one daughter, Irene Ann Sysel of Jackson, N.J.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 8, 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Wynne. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 - 7:30 p.m. with Rosary starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Thompson-Wilson Wynne Funeral Home. www.thompsonwilsonfh.com, (870) 238-9400.
