The Heartland Huskies and the Fillmore Central Panthers put forth their track and field teams on Thursday, giving their athletes one last opportunity to punch their tickets to the state meet in Omaha on May 16 and 17.
At the district meet it’s all about finishing in the top two of most events, if you want to compete the following week at the state meet in Omaha.
Even with the D-3 District Track Meet being moved to Sutton from McCool Junction, the McCool Mustang boys team still performed like they were enjoying a little home cooking.
McCool Junction Q’d athletes in six events and eeked out a 91-90 win over the Lawrence-Nelson Raiders to capture the boys team title.

Tuesday afternoon the York College baseball team did the same thing they do every afternoon they are in town. They met at Levitt Stadium for practice. The difference between today’s practice and every other one of the season is that this could be their last one of the season. That is unless they get hot in the regional tournament.

The Columbus Discoverers girls’ tennis team came to town Monday and picked up an 8-1 win over the York Dukes on the high school courts.
The Aurora Huskies made the short trip to York on Monday after noon for fun in the sun and a nine-hole round of golf. The Dukes had eight boys on the course, not quite enough to field two squads, in a dual with the Huskies. When it was over, Aurora had bragging rights with a team score of 168, only one shot less than York’s 169.
York High School students, parents, coaches and teachers came together at the city auditorium last Friday night to celebrate all things athletic. A few major awards were handed out as were a few words of wisdom from Nebraska’s head womens’ basketball coach Connie Yori.
Midway through the college baseball season the York College Panthers had yet to hit on all cylinders as a team.
