YORK – The York College baseball team’s big sixth inning lifted them to a 10-4 win over Midland University in their home opener on Wednesday at Levitt Stadium.
With the game tied at four, the Panther offense exploded in the bottom of six for six runs and the Warriors were unable to get back in the game.
After scoring a run on a Joe Garcia single and two more on a Josh Nuyten double, YC got a three-run blast by Brett Nathan in the sixth to take a 10-4 lead.
Panther defense kept Midland without a run the rest of the way preserving the six-run victory.
York’s early offense came in the first and third innings where they scored two runs each.
Midland (2-11) scored all four of their runs in the top of the third. Leading the Panthers at the plate was Nathan with four RBIs and three hits, while Nuyten had three RBIs to go along with two hits and Isaac Obermiller added two hits. Junior Carrizoza scored three runs for YC.
Earning the victory on the mound was Matt Blaemire, who came on in relief to pitch four innings, giving up three hits and striking out three.
York scored their 10 runs on 12 hits and was ticketed with one error. The Warriors had nine hits and one error in the loss.
The Panthers were coming off a seven-inning, 21-3 win over Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday in Lincoln. Against the Prairie Wolves the Panthers had 21 hits and held NWU to just six hits.
York had two errors, while Wesleyan had none.
York (10-7), who’s won their last seven games, is at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan., for a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
