YORK – The offense was not nearly as potent as over the weekend, but following their doubleheader with the Briar Cliff Chargers on Monday, the Panthers put two more notches in the win column.
York College starter Tom Korn and three relief pitchers threw goose eggs at the Chargers as the Panthers improved to 27-7 with a 2-0 win at Levitt Stadium on Monday.
The Panthers had won game one 2-1 as reported in Tuesday’s sports section.
The pitching quartet held the Chargers to just six hits, three off Korn who struck out four. The entire staff did not allow a walk to the Briar Cliff offense.
The Panthers took the lead in the top of the first on just one hit that had nothing to do with the run scoring.
After Zach Garcia drew a one-out walk, he advanced to third on a Matt Helms single back up the middle.
With Tyler Helms at the plate, Briar Cliff pitcher Adam Alexander balked Garcia home for the 1-0 lead.
In the fourth it was an Isidro Carrizoza single that scored Trevor Ramos who earned his base after being hit by a pitch. He advanced to third on an Alexander wild pitch.
The Panthers finished with nine hits, two coming off the bat of Owen, Alec Abend and Brett Wise.
The Chargers were led by Josh Spenner and Jake Erichsen with two hits each.
