York, NE —

The York Country Club hosted the District C1-1 golf tournament on Monday which showcased 75 high school golfers, all trying to shoot their way into the state tournament.
Lincoln Lutheran led the way in the team scoring with a 365, edging out Humboldt-Table Rock Steinauer by one shot. Superior totaled 368 for third place and the last team slot for state. Calvin Freeman of HTRS led the individual race with a 79.
The Heartland Huskies and Fillmore Central Panthers, both Southern Nebraska Conference teams, were in attendance and looking to punch their tickets to state. Once the last putt hit the bottom of the cup, it was revealed that only one area golfer made the cut.
Fillmore Central’s Alex Waldron shot a 45 on the outward nine followed by a 44 on the inward nine to finish his round with an 89. His round was good enough for eighth place, right in the thick of the top ten who go to state. Tenth place was a 91, leaving the Panthers’ Cody Bailey on the outside looking in with his round of 92. Riley Bohlken shot a 96 followed by Justin Pankoke with a 108 and Andrew Webb with a 110. As a team the Panthers shot a 385 for fifth place.
The Heartland Huskies weren’t able to land any golfers in the top ten and shot a 427 as a team for eighth place. Cory Gabehart was their best shooter on the day, posting a 98, only one shot ahead of teammate Lance Hiebner’s 99. Jesse Nissen carded a 99, Travis Koehn a 123 and Spencer Friesen a 125.
Waldron will join the Class C field at the Kearney Country Club on May 20 for the first round of the state tournament. The first round begins at 9:30 a.m.
