It seems like the summer softball and baseball season just ended yesterday, but not so when you look at the calendar and it reads late August.
Last Monday, with the exception of the York Dukes football team who opened their Fall practice schedule on August 11th, the other 34 teams cranked up their Fall camps this past Monday.
With the 2008 softball season just seven days away, teams are getting in a lot of work in a short period of time to get ready for their season openers.
At YHS on Thursday head coach Stacey Hall said the team has already suffered a few injuries and they working around those. “We are battling a few injuries, a pretty good ankle turn and a wrist that keeps swelling up,” said Hall.
Hall said that the teams opener against the Aurora Huskies will be against a pretty good team. “Pretty much the typical Aurora. They will be a pretty strong team.”
Teams throughout the area continue to work on things and prepare for the upcoming season.
All five of the York area softball teams will open the year next Thursday, as will the York Duke Tennis team hosting Waverly. York’s golfers hit the links next Friday at Seward, while the YHS Football team is on the road for their season debut at Grand Island Northwest.
The Volleyball season kicks off on Thursday Sept. 4th, while Cross Country and the other 10 football teams hit the gridiron as well.
It’s going to be a great fall sports season and it’s just around the corner.
