Dukes put win number one in the books

Playing more relaxed and with a lot more confidence the York Dukes softball team evened it’s early season record with a 7-2 win over the Hastings Tigers Tuesday night.
York 1-1 notched the first win ever in the brief history of the program behind the solid pitching effort of  senior Christina Hansen.
“Christina pitched great tonight and did a good job holding them down after the first inning,” said head coach Danyel Seevers. “We played much more relaxed than we did Thursday night and we had a lot more confidence.”
York jumped on the Tigers for a single counter in the first, but the Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the frame and held that lead until the top of the fifth.
In the fifth the York offense erupted for four runs behind a two run double off the bat of Michelle Rowe, and two more RBI’s in the game from Conner Coffin.
The York Dukes added a single run in the seventh for good measure and that capped the 7-2 win over the Tigers at the Bill Smith Softball Complex.
Leading the team at the plate was Ashli Ellis, Coffin and Rowe, all three players going 2-3 at the dish.
Hansen, went seven innings, allowed four hits, two earned runs, walked four and notched six strike outs. In the field the Dukes played errorless ball.
“I was very happy for the girls to get a win that they worked very hard for,” said Seevers. “Hopefully we can carry this momentum into our next game and we hope to continue improving with each game.”
The Dukes will be on the road Thursday night as they take on the Aurora Huskies.
