The grass on the field at East Hill Park could have easily been mistaken for the rough at a U.S. Open.

With the natural grass over six inches in places, the ball did not roll very far when kicked, and some balls that normally roll out of bounds came to rest far from the sidelines due to the thick green turf.
One Cloud County player may have said it best when he stated, “I don’t know what is tripping me more, the grass or the other team.”
The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie through the first 45 minutes of action, and while the Panthers were able to keep the game that way for the first five minutes of the second half, it became clear the Thunderbirds had a little more gas left in their tank at the end of the second 45 minutes of action.
The Thunderbirds scored at the 40:10 mark on a long direct kick that was headed into the back of the net by Alberto Gimeno-Naval.
The Thunderbirds put the icing on the cake 25 minutes later when another header found its mark and the lead grew to 3-1.
The latter part of the game saw the Thunderbirds control the action as they had three or four more good scoring chances.
York’s only goal was unofficially charted to Jorge Lama, and that was on a header off a direct kick.
The York College team starts for real next Saturday as they take on Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D.
