York, NE —

The Aurora Huskies made the short trip to York on Monday after noon for fun in the sun and a nine-hole round of golf. The Dukes had eight boys on the course, not quite enough to field two squads, in a dual with the Huskies. When it was over, Aurora had bragging rights with a team score of 168, only one shot less than York’s 169.

In a one stroke loss I’m sure every guy on our team is thinking back to where he could have saved a shot,” head coach Dan Malleck said about his boys.

The Dukes have had a run of tournaments and duals where they finish just off of first place, and Monday was no different.

Preston Burk was the hot shooter for York and the whole field, knocking down a round of 37 to win top honors individually. Aurora’s Ryan Grossnicklaus came in second with a 38. Matt Hansen shot the second lowest round for his Dukes with a 40, followed by Ryan Salsman and Preston Jacobe with 46. Bret Gardner’s 48 was just out of the scoring for the Dukes.

York’s B squad was lead by Jacob Wein with a 48, Barry Goff with a 51 and Danny Zegers with a 56.

After suffering such a tough loss on Monday the Dukes will have to regroup for a very difficult invite at Grand Island on Friday, May 9. The first golfers will tee off at 9 a.m.
