York, NE —

At the break York led Seward 21-7, but had only out-yarded them 175-148.
Most of the success of the Bluejay offense had come from junior quarterback Chase Koch.
In the second half the Dukes put the clamps on the signal caller and motored to a 35-14 win at East Hill Park Friday night.
That sets up the next two weeks where a pair of wins over Columbus Lakeview and Columbus High would give the Dukes the district title.
Seward turned the ball over on their first possession and York only needed 2:20 to capitalize as fullback Noah Dorcey moved the entire pile six yards straight into the end zone for the early 7-0 lead following Garett Sikes’ PAT kick at the 8:49 mark.
Seward then mounted its best drive of the night as Chase Wurdeman’s 42-yard dash set the Bluejays up at the York 35-yard line.
Seward tied the game at 3:51 of the first quarter when Chase Koch scored on a 1-yard run, and his PAT tied the game at 7-7.
York continued to move the ball as Eric Brouillette connected with Matt Hansen for 8 yards. Tommy Brown ran for another 6, and three plays later the Brouillette-to-Hansen connection worked for a 59-yard scoring toss to make it 14-7.
A muffed punt by the Bluejays gave York the ball at the Seward 15 and on first-and-goal from the Seward 10, Matt Hansen took the end around pitch and scored his second touchdown of the night with 8:19 to play in the second quarter.
Seward’s bread and butter has been the running of Koch, and when their game plan called for Koch to get the ball the Bluejays moved downfield, but he was about their only offensive weapon.
“Even when they got behind they kept running him, and when they did we had trouble stopping him, but for some reason they did us a favor and stopped using him,” commented York head coach Scott Kohmetscher. “ I think the kids are finally starting to see that we are a good football team and all the hard work we have gone through is starting to pay off. We executed tonight, and our penalties were down. That was a huge key.”
In the first half Koch went for 64 yards on 10 carries, but in the second half the junior was held to just 25 yards rushing and the Seward offense overall had just 65 net yards, 66 yards on the final drive.
York forced two third quarter turnovers as Ty Branz sacked Koch and forced a fumble that was recovered by Zachary Packard. Brouillette picked up a loose ball after a Bluejay completed pass was stripped away.
York’s two second-half scores came on a seven-play, 60-yard drive to open the third quarter and Hansen caught his second score of the night from 19-yards out from Brouillette.
York led 35-7 when Brouillette hit for his third scoring toss to Conner Peery after a Seward defender tipped the ball.
The Bluejays’ final score came on a Koch 3-yard run with 1:29 to play.
York added 150 yards of total offense in the second half for 328 in the game. Seward was held to 213 yards of total offense.
York (3-4) will be at Columbus Lakeview next Friday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Over 60 former players were on hand Friday night as York Football celebrated 110 years of going strong. Those players were introduced at half-time and they lined the field in front of the north bleachers.
