Fairbury —

The Beaver Crossing Pirates scored four times in the top of the third, and that put the York State Bank 16-U Golden Eagles behind the eight ball the rest of the game.
The Golden Eagles tried to battle back as they trimmed the lead to 4-3 with three runs in the fourth, but despite a few good opportunities down the stretch, the Pirate defense answered the call every time.
A big two run triple highlighted the Pirates’ third inning uprising, and one York error kept the inning alive for the Beaver Crossing girls.
The York team started their three run rally with two outs. A walk to Michelle Rowe and a single by Connor Coffin kept the inning alive for the Golden Eagles. Following York’s second hit of the game by Coffin, pitcher Christina Hansen delivered a two-run double to make it 4-2 when both Rowe and Coffin scored.
Hansen went to third on a passed ball, then taunted the Beaver Crossing catcher into a game of cat and mouse. When the catcher’s throw tipped off the third baseman’s glove, Hansen trotted home to trim the lead to 4-3.
Unfortunately the Golden Eagles went quietly over the final three frames, as only Courtney Rediger had a hit. She was cut down trying to steal second base.
On the hill, Hansen allowed six hits and three earned runs. She also struck out four and walked none, but hit one batter. The Pirates out hit the Golden Eagles 6-3 in the win.
