Albion, NE —

The York boys depth at the Boone Central Cross Country Meet on Friday may have turned the heads of many coaches from the other teams.
The Dukes flexed their muscle at the first Cross Country meet of the season winning the Boone Central Invite on Friday afternoon with 28 points, while Columbus took second with 53, and Central City was a close third with 58.
On the girls side it was just the opposite as the Columbus girls took the top spot with 17 points, with the York girls coming in second at 41.
The York boys showed great balance as Dylan Obermier took third with a time 15:17, just eight seconds off the top time of John Pawell of Columbus.
“Dylan ran about 50 seconds faster than he did last year,” said head coach Eric Rasmussen. “he was ninth with about a mile to go, but her worked himself all the way to second before finishing third.”
In seventh was Brett Grieb with a time of 16:41, seven seconds back in eighth was Alex Adams (16:48) while Chris Mauer and Alex Obermeier took 10th and 11th with exact times of 16:53. Brandon Lambert also finished in the medals with a 17:27.
“The guys ran great. Five guys were ahead of the time posted by our second place guy last year,” said Rasmussen. “That shows how much depth this team has.”
On the girls side, Columbus’ Jenna Schnellenberger took first with a clocking of 15:59, while Jessica Driewer of York was second with a 16:16.
Putting up a 10th place showing was Kassie Blatter with a time of 17:19, 11th and a medal went to Bekah Spader with a time of 17:21, while Taylor Wiens took 22nd position overall with a clocking of 18:28.
“The girls also ran real well, a lot of younger girls really came out today and had good performances,” said Rasmussen. “Jessica stayed with the girls from Columbus all the way to the last quarter mile before the other girl started to pull away. I was real happy with the way the kids ran today.”
York will return to action next Friday when they compete at the Aurora Invite scheduled to get underway at 4:45 p.m.
