Don’t get me wrong -- I love York as much as anyone, but sometimes it’s great to explore new places and experience new things. With all the cold and snow we’ve had, surely we’re all ready for springtime fun. The Fun Club has a variety of activities we hope you’ll consider. Although many of our activities are sold out, the following have openings:
The Horseshoe Casino trips on Thursdays, March 14 and April 11, have plenty of spots available. The motorcoach will depart York at 8:30 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. The cost is only $30 and a complimentary lunch buffet is available to those who are pre-registered. You’ve never been to the casino? Escort Karen Peters is there to help.
The Fun Club will see “My Fair Lady” on Friday, April 12, at Southwest High School in Lincoln. The cost is $66 with dinner at Valentino’s Grand Buffet prior to the performance. The musical features Eliza Doolittle who sells flowers on the streets of London and dreams of becoming a lady. Some of the great songs you’ll recognize are “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?” and “I Could Have Danced All Night.”
“Pioneer Courage” is a one-day tour on Wednesday, April 24. This adventure will take us to Fremont for an Irish immigrant program and to Omaha for an Irish lunch. We’ll tour some historic sites in Omaha including Pioneer Courage Park which has the largest display of bronze and steel sculptures in the U.S. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Then we’ll head to the Polish Center in Papillion to explore the Polish heritage and enjoy an authentic Polish dinner. The cost is $104 inclusive.
Just a few days later the Fun Club will enjoy another wonderful springtime outing. A four-day tour in Iowa on April 29 to May 2 will culminate at the “Pella Tulip Festival.” It’s a great event with gorgeous tulips and the best little parade you’ve ever seen. The cost is $598 per person. En route to Pella, we’ll tour the Amana Colonies, enjoy an Austrian program at Shellsburg, visit the Czech museum at Cedar Rapids and experience the Amish lifestyle in Kalona. Five of the nine included meals will feature delicious ethnic foods prepared by expert cooks from each heritage.
The Fun Club has just added the musical “Mame” at the Lincoln Community Playhouse to our schedule on Friday, May 10. The musical revolves around the antics of Mame Dennis, a fun-loving, wealthy eccentric with a flair for life. That life suddenly changes when she becomes the guardian of her late brother’s only child. Her adventures take us from the roaring 20’s through the depression. The cost is $72 with dinner prior to the show.
The “Mystery Trip” is always popular with Fun Club travelers. The three-day tour will be held Thursday through Saturday, June 13 - 15. Where will we go? We can’t tell you! The cost is $389 per person for double room occupancy and a single room is $494. This includes two nights lodging, seven meals and many fun surprises. As with all our multi-day tours, good walking ability is necessary.
“The Phantom of the Opera” will be at the Lied Center in Lincoln this fall. This show is Broadway’s longest running show ever and the music is incredible. The Lied has not yet released tickets except to season ticket holders but we believe the cost will be about $150 with transportation, dinner and the show. The date will probably be Oct. 27 or Nov. 3 for a Sunday matinee. We will choose the date according to best seats available. Let us know if you’re interested.
We’ll be adding lots more shows to our summer and fall schedule. Stay tuned for more information later.
We are also accepting reservations for “Christmas in Branson” on Nov. 11-15. Seven great shows will include Daniel O’Donnell, the Oakridge Boys and the comedian Yakov Smirnoff. Silver Dollar City will be another treat with its light parade, shows and magnificent Christmas lights. The cost is $859 per person with double room occupancy.
There are openings for our fabulous “Christmas Markets on the Rhine” tour which includes a six-night cruise aboard the Amadeus Silver II. Enjoy eight Christmas markets and walking tours in Switzerland, France and Germany. Come and experience the fairy tale Christmas settings and Old World holiday traditions. The cost is dependent upon your choice of stateroom.
