Big Band Music will be featured in two shows coming to the Lied during their 2019-2020 season.

Lovers of Big Band music are in for a special treat in the coming months.

The Lied Center in Lincoln has two shows that will feature this nostalgic sound.

On Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, the Fun Club will attend a 1940s musical revue titled “In the Mood” at the Lied Center. Then on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, Fun Club travelers will see the Broadway musical production titled “Bandstand.” Both shows feature the great Big Band sound and fabulous singing and dancing but each production is totally unique.

“In the Mood”

“In the Mood” has been touring the world for a quarter of a century. In fact, they are currently celebrating their 25th Anniversary Tour. The show features the “String of Pearls Orchestra” and the “In the Mood Singers and Dancers.” It is jam-packed with your favorite songs from the 30s and 40s such as “Swingin’ on a Star,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and “Sing, Sing, Sing.”

Period costumes, outstanding orchestral arrangements, vocalists delivering jazzy songs, choreographed dance routines and awesome American pizzazz are all part of the show.

The cost for this Sunday, Oct. 6, event is $85 which includes motorcoach transportation, lunch prior to the show and your theatre admission. The bus will depart York at 10:40 a.m. Call the Fun Club at 402-745-6477 any weekday morning to register for this fun show.

“Bandstand, the Musical”

The Broadway production of “Bandstand, the Musical” celebrates the great Big Band sound and it also features a plot. It tells the story of six veterans returning home to the U.S. after World War II. The vets struggle to fit into their old lives while dealing with the lingering effects of the war.

The six vets form a band to compete in a national patriotic radio contest. The veterans play their hearts out while also providing post-war America a look into the effects the war had on our heroes. The sets are lavish, the musical numbers jump and the choreography is incredible.

The cost for this Broadway traveling show is $119 which includes motorcoach transportation, lunch before the show and your theatre admission. The bus will depart York at 10:40 a.m. Call the Fun Club to add your name to our roster.
