The Fun Club’s day in Brownville is less than a month away and we hope you’ll join us for our annual trek to this historic community.
The date is Wednesday, July 17, and the motorcoach will depart York at 8 a.m. The cost is $108 inclusive for a whole day of fun. Call 402-745-6477 or email us to add your name to the roster for this unique adventure.
In its heyday, the mid to late 1800s, Brownville was an important port on the Missouri River and the largest town in Nebraska. Although their glory days are gone, the town has maintained its charm as well as pride in its heritage. The Fun Club will enjoy a motorcoach tour of this historic community which was almost Nebraska’s first capital.
After lunch at the Lyceum Café, Fun Club travelers will have the opportunity to visit several museums or historic locations including the 1854 Didier log cabin, the refurbished Carson House and the Folk Art Museum. There’s a lovely Arboretum that guests may visit and it’s always fun to browse the quaint shops in downtown Brownville.
The Fun Club will attend “The Three Tenors” performance at the Village Theatre. It’s described as a side-splitting farce and the theatre has warned us that it’s a little scandalous. The group will also enjoy wine tasting at the Whiskey Run Creek Winery which has an interesting history of its own.
And, the dinner cruise on the “Spirit of Brownville” paddlewheeler is always a highlight. We’ll meander down the river through the scenic Missouri River Valley which is a fun and tranquil experience. Give us a call to join us for the all-inclusive day.
Ring of Fire
The Lincoln Community Playhouse has added the Johnny Cash musical “Ring of Fire” to their fall line-up and the Fun Club has secured tickets for the Sunday, Sept. 8, performance. The motorcoach will depart York at 10:20 a.m. and the cost is $76 per person. There will be a stop at Valentino’s Grand Italian Buffet for lunch prior to the performance.
“Ring of Fire” will bring to life the stories made famous in Johnny Cash’s songs. The show will feature 38 of the music legend’s tunes including “Country Boy,” “A Thing Called Love,” “Five Feet High and Rising,” “Daddy Sang Bass,” “Ring of Fire,” “I Walk the Line,” “I’ve Been Everywhere,” “The Man in Black” and many others.
A talented group of actors and musicians will take audiences on a journey through Cash’s career from the cotton fields of Arkansas to the Grand Ole Opry. Call the Fun Club any weekday morning to add your name to the roster.
The Fun Club has had about 40 travelers on their monthly jaunt to Horseshoe Casino lately. Be sure to add your name to the roster at least three days prior to each trip, if possible, to assure you receive the complimentary luncheon buffet.
The next Horseshoe Casino dates are Thursdays, July 18, and August 15. Call us at 402-745-6477 to add your name to our list.
