YORK – The field of eight candidates has been narrowed down to six in the race for three seats on the Henderson City Council.

Because the number of candidates was more than double the number of available seats, the race was included on the Primary ballot for Henderson residents.

State law then requires the field to be cut down to six (twice the number of available seats) for the General Election in November, according to York County Clerk Kelly Turner.

The six advancing candidates for the Henderson City Council are Jason Lewis, Brian Hiebner, David May, Larry Burton, Stan Friesen and Matt Friesen.

The following is a list of total votes per candidate:

Jeb Mierau: 51

Jason Lewis: 111

David May: 71

Larry Burton: 118

Matt Friesen: 183

Stan Friesen: 119

Twila Fuller: 37

Brian Hiebner: 240

In questionnaires dispersed to the candidates prior to the election, all of them expressed their dedication to the City of Henderson. In some fashion, all the candidates expressed the need for ongoing economic development efforts, as well as infrastructure maintenance, as priorities into the future.
