YORK -- The York Garden Club met June 24, 2019 at Chances R.
Hostesses were Donna Dedlow and Carlla Eastman. Roll call was answered by 27 members naming their favorite spring bulb. Mary Beth Kunze presented the program, A Nebraskan Gardening in Arizona. She shared pictures of the landscape at their Arizona home which contain at least 60 roses. Many cactus, lantana, and snapdragons grow there profusely.
Following the program, president, Aloha Schmid called the meeting to order. Ann Kirkpatrick reported she had sent three birthday cards in May and two in June and one sympathy card. Deanna Warnken was honored for her June birthday. Carol Withee thanked the club for acknowledging her and Ken’s 60th wedding anniversary. Historian, Doris Bowman read the minutes of the June 24, 1963 Garden Club meeting hosted by Beth Strand.
More information was presented concerning the purchase of a metal bench for Wessel’s Farm, but no action was taken. Elaine Waggoner shared information about the “hand” artwork on display around Lincoln. Joan Strong encouraged members to consider entering flowers at the York County Fair. It was suggested the club have a bulb exchange at a fall meeting.
The next meeting will be a trip to the Sunken Gardens in Lincoln on July 22, 2019. Following the self tour Joan Strong will gather the group for an informative session and then the group will proceed to Billy’s for lunch. Virginia Gloystein and Carol Withee will be July hostesses.
