Donald H. Grotzky, born Feb. 5, 1929, in Grand Island, died June 28, 2019, in Lombard, Ill.
He was a loving husband, loyal dad, awesome uncle and sterling grandpa!
The funeral service was on Tuesday, July 2, at Lexington Square, 555 Foxworth Blvd., Lombard, Ill., 60148.
Don lived an active and productive life. Don was born in Grand Island to Cecelia and John Grotzky. He had one sister, Phyllis Rodabaugh.
He married the love of his life, Reinette, on Nov. 7, 1975, at St. Leo’s Church in Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island for a couple of years and then Don’s career took them to York, followed by Norfolk.
Don graduated from Grand Island Senior High School, Hastings College (where they first met), Graduate School of Physics and Mathematics at the University of South Dakota and the Grand Island School of Business (where they reconnected). His early years were spent working the Union Pacific Railroad and the physics laboratory at the University of Iowa. He worked later as a certified quality engineer at Dale Electronics in both York and Norfolk.
Don served in the Army from 1950-1952, serving in Japan and Korea. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Don loved staying busy. He and his nephews spent many hours in the duck blind hunting mallards on the Platte River. Reinette later joined him in his passion for hunting. Don was an active HAM radio operator connecting with fellow HAMs across the globe on the “nightly net.”
Don was a loving influence on his family and friends who cherished him. Don’s family is his wife, H. Reinette Grotzky; his three children, Tom Paulick, Pat Lekaca and Jan Veleba. Plus, nieces and nephews, grandchildren/ grandnieces and nephews and many others that loved Don.
