YORK – After the Seward Seniors erased a 4-0 two-out, two-strike lead by the Aurora Pinnacle Bank Seniors in the top of the seventh, Aurora came back to pick up the win in their half of the inning.
Aurora’s Brady Collingham blooped a double down the left field line, followed by a one-out laser to the same spot by Grant Bonifas for the game winner in the 5-4 final in Class B Area 4 action at Levitt Stadium.
What started out to be a pitcher duel between Aurora starter Brodi Hansen and Seward’s Theo Hughes ended up with a flurry of runs late by both teams.
Hansen worked 6 2/3 innings and had two strikes on the batter with two outs in the top of the seventh, but could not close the door. Hansen struck out 10, but wildness with two hit batters in the seventh led to him being lifted.
With the bases loaded, Cody Kosinski relieved Hansen and gave up a two-run single to Hunter Novacek and a two-run game tying double to Derek Holtorf.
Kosinski did not record an out and Cy Bullerman came in and got the third out on a ground ball to third.
Seward’s Hughes had given up just one hit through four innings and left after six complete with five strikeouts. He allowed five hits and four runs, all earned.
In the Aurora fifth, Jacob Schleicher tripled and scored on a fielders choice, followed by a run scoring double off the bat of Brandon Otto for the first two runs.
Aurora added two more in the sixth when Jarett Havens ripped a two-run single to make it 4-0.
Aurora finished with five hits and stranded five base runners.
Seward actually out-hit Aurora 6-5 and left eight runners on base.
The win puts the Aurora team in tonight’s 7 p.m. game where they will take on Crete which defeated Schuyler 10-2 in the earlier game.
