YORK – After giving up three first inning runs to the Grand Island Elite Blue 18-U team, the York Fusion 18s responded with a four spot in the bottom half of the first and never looked back.

York added five in the second and had pushed across two runs in the top of the third when time expired with the York girls on top 11-6 for the win.

The York bats didn’t have to do a lot, but when a pair of Elite pitchers combined to hit three batters and walk four, timely hitting by the Fusion pushed across the double-digit number in runs.

In the bottom of the first, the Fusion had had just one hit, an RBI single by Cori Combs who went 2 for 2 in the game and drove in the one run.

The Elite offense was clicking as well with three hits in the first including a two-run double by Alexis Mudloff (Grand Island Central Catholic) and a run-scoring single from Audra Witmer also a GICC softball player.

The Elite tied the game at 4-4 in the second on a run-scoring single that drove in Alex Boon who had doubled.

In the York second the Fusion plated five runs on four hits, including a two-run single by Jami Hoblyn and a run-scoring single from Kaitlyn Martin. Hoblyn drove in four runs in the win as she accounted for the two runs in the third when time was called with a two-run double to give her four runs batted in.

The Elite had three hits and scored two runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to 9-6.

York finished the game with six hits, but a combination of walks and hit batters made it more like 13.

The Elite had seven hits led by Mudloff who was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

On the mound for the Fusion was Alexis Linder who pitched the entire game allowing seven hits. She had one K and walked two batters.

The Fusion returns to action Wednesday when they travel to Milford to take on the Eagles.
