Westminster, CO. – York senior-to-be Reed Malleck traveled to Westminster, Colorado this weekend where he competed in the Hale Irwin Jr. 18-hole qualifier for this week’s tournament.

The field included 75 kids from 11 states and five countries playing for eight spots in the tournament, which will be played on June 5-7 at Walnut Creek, which is located about 40-minutes north of Denver.

Malleck got off to a rough start as he was three-over par through the first six holes and was six-over with three holes to play.

After the field endured a second lightning delay, Malleck continued his birdie run with two more birdies and a par. He missed a 15-foot birdie putt on 18 and came up one shot short of qualifying.

Malleck ended up tied for 15th with a 76.

The winner of the 18-hole qualifier was Gage Messingham of Arvada, Colo., with a 1-under. In second place was Maxwell Lange of Golden, Colo., with an even par.
