NSC Mud Run set for Aug. 24
LINCOLN – More than 800 runners are set to take on 1-3 miles of mud, obstacles and dirt-track running at Lancaster Event Center (LEC) in Lincoln on Saturday, Aug. 24 in the 13th Annual Nebraska Sports Council Mud Run.
Registration remains open through Tuesday, Aug. 20 for the 3-mile course and Friday, Aug. 23 for the one-mile Mini Mud Run. Each runner receives a shirt, finisher medal, post-race beverage and a certificate for a free Arby’s sandwich with their entry fee. Those interested can register online at NebraskaSportsCouncil.com.
Registrations so far include runners from eight different states and 76 Nebraska towns. The oldest registered runner is Robert Black, 67, of Lincoln and the youngest is Wyatt Trede, 2, from Gretna. Average age is 28 with 55% of runners being female, 45% male.
Courses offered include the one-mile Mini Mud Run, which begins at 9 a.m., and the 3-mile at 10 a.m. Both courses offer multiple obstacles. Runners can run as individuals or members of 3-person tethered teams and are encouraged to run in costume.
A post-race party featuring award presentations and music by DJ Luv will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in LEC’s Pavillion I. A shower system with 25 stations is available for runners to rinse off before the party.

York Dukes host flag and tackle football
YORK — The York football team will once again be hosting flag football for boys and girls in grades 1-6 this fall. Games and practices will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, 24, 31 and Sept. 14. Forms are available at any York Public School office or York Community Center.
York Youth Football is forming 4th, 5th and 6th grade tackle teams for this fall. A parent meeting and pad check out will be Sunday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. at the York High School practice field. The first practice will be on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. at the York High School east practice field. Forms can be picked up at any York Public School office or York Community Center.
Reminder: a physical is required to play youth tackle football.
