YORK – The York Knights 8-U baseball team jumped on the Waverly Riptide in the bottom of the first inning, and then held off a late charge by the visitors for an 11-8 win on Monday night in York.
Waverly took a 1-0 lead in the first before York stormed back and led 4-1 at the end of the inning thanks to a few walks and a couple errors by Waverly.
The Knights put up another five runs in the second inning as Garrett Haggadone and Crue Eimermann had hits with the bases loaded in the frame.
York got the insurance runs it needed in the fourth inning, scoring two to lead 11-2 thanks to a hit by Haggadone and an RBI groundout by Kyler Kern.
Waverly scored six runs in the fifth inning but the Knights were able to stop the Riptide offense before they could make up the nine-run deficit.
Oliver Palmertree led things off on the hill for York. He went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out six. Koleston Lee came on in relief and threw 1 2/3 innings. Jackson Rempel finished the game for York.
Lee connected for a hit while Haggadone had two to lead York.
